Yep. I’m a big CloudFormation supporter. I’d argue that the minimal viable JSON to a useful “service” is pretty large and brittle, but that should drive templating/composable JSON rather than bypassing CloudFormation. Push the complexity to the left.

Need to learn more, but AFAIU it’s providing higher level abstractions for a single AWS service. CloudFormation has traditionally treated every service equally. Like the idea of transforms though - would prefer that to be generic “applyTransform” (eg, XSLTish) rather than 1 svc.

I think there’s room for both - in the end the aspirational architectures will converge I’d bet.
