Good advice. As @johnmorell0 notes, many concerns are #serverless independent. Serverless does provide a way to more tightly scope POLA and supply better containment/observability info. But that comes with its own configuration overhead and tendency to drift.

IMO there are latent issues that are largely intractable with VM/container deploys.

If a team is “all-in” on serverless and is rearchitecting/greenfielding, they have an opportunity to shift security left & build POLA for specific handlers now.

In theory you could do something similar for monoliths & VMs, but it would have been really painful to manage.

You can now cleanly express & serverless workflows tend to be more explicit via source/sinks, so setting per-path privs is really appealing IMO. But also me, 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Yep - I’ve also seen DiffOps used for this shift. There are still many (more?) operational responsibilities and trying to keep them all in alignment while code is going to the cloud dozens/hundreds of times a day is a real challenge.

I’m here to help if you’d like to give it another shot. There are a few sharp edges and areas where it could use more power (generics 👀). However, the “asymptotically boring” development and single binaries are big wins.
