Tech: microservices vs monoliths - Fight!
Human factors: “Despite this, research has shown that surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses have rather different concepts of what constitutes teamwork and communication in the OR.”
True (also a big fan of @ri_cook) & agree they’re not often/always the same people. I unfortunately am already aware of the uneven enlightenment of hospitals. 😞
Agree. I’m fine with it as a backup option to diagnose & ad hoc, but not as the primary “remediation” path for known failure modes that don’t include a supervisor hierarchy by default.
“It’s about coding for the happy path and acknowledging the fact there are faults that will occur that we aren’t going to be able to handle properly because we don’t know how the program ought to handle them”

“If we allow, then, that one of the more lasting impacts of the advent of cloud services is the impact to pricing models, that raises an interesting question: will the same be true of serverless?” (via @Pocket) https://pocket.co/xd5Pu_

“This allows app developers to focus on building OAM components, app operators to focus on operational capabilities through the OAM app config and infra operators to focus on Kubernetes.”

Trying to get 2020 back on track. One of the best things about `go` might be aspect that aggravates some: minimal opportunities for programmer cleverness (Scala implicits 🔮, Node async indirections 🤷♂️). Current me appreciates the boringness. 💤

“Despite the drive in some quarters to make microservice architectures the default approach for software, I feel that due to their numerous challenges, adopting them still requires careful thought.”(via @Pocket) https://pocket.co/xdHmu1
That reading seems overly critical and I do agree @martinfowler has a good write up. Also @samnewman ‘s https://www.amazon.com/dp/1491950358/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_F0QsEbF8E5S6N
It’s been a long time, I shouldn’t have left you
Without a valid event to react to
Think of how many failed crons you slept through
Time’s up, I’m sorry I kept you
Thinking of this, you keep repeating you miss

“While I don’t know if J left a trail of destruction in his high-pressure-wake before, I have seen the mess that others who used similar tactics to J left behind. In fact, I’ve spent a good part of my career cleaning up after those messes.”

“A better way to model a job here is just a function in Scala with inputs and outputs. A function is composable, and if we want our standalone program, it’s easy to wrap.”
“The industry is prime for a renaissance, but we must get past the notion that the only value of post-incident analysis is in the list of static remediation items that so many of those processes are modeled, even optimized, to produce.” #longreads https://pocket.co/xdNw95
